HEARTHSTEAD BECOMES ONE OF THE FIRST HOUSEBUILDERS IN YORKSHIRE TO RECEIVE
NHBC SAFETY AWARD

Leeds-based Hearthstead Homes is one of the first housebuilders in Yorkshire to receive the coveted, industry-recognised NHBC (National House Building Council) Health and Safety Audit and Accreditation award. This mark of distinction has been presented following an extensive assessment of Hearthstead's health and safety policies and procedures.

The company's health and safety management systems were reviewed by the NHBC and met its stringent requirements for all areas of activity, both on and off site. The scheme is a comprehensive audit, which evaluates procedures, and highlights good practice and areas for improvement.

"We are committed to training all our staff in the importance of health and safety and believe in taking a responsible and proactive approach", said Malcolm Hill, Construction Director for Hearthstead Homes. "The construction industry can be potentially very hazardous but through extensive training for staff at every level, we can ensure that our sites are a safer and more pleasant place to work".

He added, "Safety must be the first consideration when planning any operation, both prior to starting work on a development and during work on site. It is vital that everybody is fully trained to ensure best practice and a complete understanding of safety issues."

Simon Mantle, NHBC Health and Safety Services Manager, commented, "The housebuilding industry recognises, as a key objective, the need to reduce accidents and injury on site. The NHBC Audit and Accreditation Scheme aims to address this by demanding a more considered approach to all aspects of health and safety. We are delighted to see that Hearthstead Homes has subscribed to the scheme and that they are committed to making a positive contribution to achieving improvements in health and safety standards in our industry."
